Recycle

Hi my name is Yazmin I’m a Year Five from Paihia School, Te Maunga. For the past few weeks we have been doing stuff about Refuse, Reuse, Recycle, Reduce. It was fun and I learnt a lot. We had to make a sign (different from the real one) and we had to choose one of these things Refuse, Reuse, Recycle, Reduce, I chose Reuse  and you will be able to see the sign that I made. Recycling is when you recycle something plastic and people turn it into something else. Reusing is when something is plastic and you can make it into something else.

Makerspace - Electricity

Hi my name is Yazmin I’m a year 5 in Te Maunga from Paihia School. In the first block of school we did a makerspace.  The makerspace was about electricity. We done all sorts of experiments and nearly all of them worked. We were in groups I was with Ayanda, Brisa, Fern, Akira, Ricky - May and Shivarm. We done an active and that was with a lemon, 10sens, nails, LED and alligator clips.

First we got the lemon and cut a little line on every one of the lemon (there were 4 lemons) and we put the ten sent coin in the lemon. The next step was to put a nail right in line of the coin and stuck it in so they didn’t touch. After that we put an alligator clip on each of those coins that we just put in the lemon. The second to last step was to join the alligator clips with the nails and it had to be in a circle. The last step was to connect the LED to two of those clips and then it should make the LED (light bulb) turn on.

Makerspace

Hi, my name is Yazmin and I’m a year 5 at Paihia School. Last Friday, in Te Maunga we done a makerspace about plants, we were in groups of five I was with Fern, Akira, Ayanda and Brisa. We had a yellow box that had items that are from our garden we had to use 1, 2, 3, 4 or all of them. We used two and it was parsley and carrots. We made a salad and it was really good. We all worked together as a team and we enjoyed it. We also used with parsley, pears, almonds, grapes, some lemon juice for extra flavour, lettuce, cucumber, carrots, strawberries and tomatoes. First we layed newspaper down and put compost on top. Next we planted the seedling and water the whole garden. Then we waited till spring (we planted them on matariki). They grew and grew until they were ready and then we ate them and used them for the makerspace. Every plant needs 5 things and that is water, air ,light, warmth and nutrients.

Makerspace Melting Juicie

Yesterday we did a makerspace and our experiment that we have done was the  melting ice - block. So what we have done first is get into our groups (we could either be by ourselves, in pairs or in threes) I was with

Brisa and Fern. Secondly, we had to  write or draw our plan (we decided to write our plan) and we used a whole lot of different things by the way. Thirdly, you need to create your design (we had 45 minutes to create). Next, you need to put the juice inside your design and tape it up. Finally test it out, we left it outside for about an hour and then you got bring it inside and see if it worked or not, ours kind of worked it was about half melted and half Soiled. Hope you enjoy, Yazmin.

Geometry Post

We have been doing geometry and we did a DLO about it. I really enjoyed doing the geometry and writing what I learnt even though I wasn’t here to do that many. We learnt about 3D shapes and 2D shapes.

Are You in the Right Place at the Right Time Online?

A lady named Deb that’s short for Deborah comes to our class to tell is about cyber smart. This week she didn’t couldn’t come so Mr Ngata taught us instead. We had this google slide and we had to take screenshots of the online stuff that we’re allowed on. I took screenshots of My drive, My blog, Te Maunga site, our hand in sheet and if you don’t know what that is it’s where we put all our learning so the teachers can check our work, my and in my class and the Paihia School site. When she first came she told us about online bullying and we learned a lot about that. She is really helping in our learning and I think we have all improved since then. Yazmin

Chicken Pox

When it was Cross County, I was away because I had chicken pox and they got infected. When I had chicken pox I was lying in bed all day and night. I basically had holes in my skin and they looked like they were scars and no blood was coming out of it. The date of Cross Country was Friday the 30th of August. I was only at school for a couple of practises, I can’t remember my times because it was four weeks ago.

Adele Broadbent

Adele Broadbent talked to the senior syndicate of Paihia School to talk about her books that she has published. She made a website for kids, adults any age and you can look for books that you like and you wouldn’t have to pay to go on the website either and that’s a really good thing to have. Anyway her books sound great just by hearing the titles. The website if you're wondering is called WHATBOOKNEXT.COM
